Friends Golf Society was formed in 2005 and consists of over 30 members. Based in the Midlands the society has played many different courses throughout the UK and thrives to provide an opportunity for friends to get together and play golf.
The society has grown steadily since its inception ten years ago and now has a large group of dedicated golfers who all share the same ideals - to have fun playing golf.
This website has been built to allow both members and visitors alike to learn about our society and its members and to keep up to date with all news and events.
Happy Viewing, Peter Christoforou, Editor of Friends Golf Society.
First of all, I would like to say WELCOME BACK! At last we are back playing the game we all love following a difficult and unprecedented 14 months. I hope every one is in good health and raring to go, hitting those lovely fairways once again (in some cases, now and again).
As a society, we are certainly back with a great start with our first event taking place at Holinwell G C, a top, heathland course currently used as an Open qualifying venue. Due to the pandemic and travel restrictions at the time of booking the courses, in its place we have arranged two overnight stays in this country. First, is The Oxfordshire GCC on the 22nd and 23rd of June. The other overnight stay is at the Celtic Manor GCC 21st and 22nd of September playing first the Roman Road then the Twenty Ten. Hopefully, we will have better weather than our previous visit to South Wales in 2010, when it rained for two days! Closer to home, in July we visit Keddlestone Park, one of Derbyshire's finest courses, but take note we will be playing on a Tuesday and not on our usual Wednesday. Societies are not permitted on a Wednesday. It's a course we always wanted to play as a society and decided as a one off to make the switch. I hope this meets with everyone's approval? We finish the season at Ladbrook Park in October, always a popular course and a very good test of golf for everyone to enjoy. As it's a short season, playing five games instead of our usual eight, we won't be running the order of merit - it will be just golf with prizes awarded at each event.
Looking forward to seeing you all again, I hope the weather is kind to us. Wishing you all good health and some great golf.
I want say a big thank you to our sponsors, Zanfish Ltd based in Derby suppliers to the fish shop trade, BD signs designers of top quality menus and web sites based in Nottingham, Friars Pride also suppliers to the fish and chip shop trade and Double A kebabs in Nottingham.
